Renewal and accumulation of a Lanice conchilega (Pallas) population in the bale des Veys, western Bay of Seine ArchiMer
Ropert, Michel; Dauvin, Jean-claude.
Since the mid-1980s, an increase in abundance of the annelid polychaete Lanice conchilega (Pallas) (Annelida: Polychacta, Terebellidae) has been observed in the Bay des Veys (western Bay of Seine). The first particularity of this population is that it is strictly limited to the eastern side of the bay, in an oyster aquaculture area. Its proliferation (over 7 000 ind.m(-2)) has had a significant impact on the local aquaculture. Several studies have been carried out since 1993; monthly monitoring of population densities and size structure has demonstrated the lack of significant juvenile recruitment between 1993 and 1996. In terms of geographical occupation, maps of population spatial distributions were drawn in 1995 and 1998. They showed an increase in...

Rural livestock asset portfolio in northern Ethiopia: A microeconomic analysis of choice and accumulation AgEcon
Tegebu, Fredu Nega; Mathijs, Erik; Deckers, Jozef A.; Tollens, Eric.
Livestock of different species fulfill different functions. Depending on their livelihood strategies, households differ in their choice of type of animal to keep and accumulation of the chosen animal overtime. This paper investigates the dynamic behavior of rural households’ livestock holding to identify determinants of choice of type of animal households’ keep and accumulation of the chosen animals using a panel data of 385 rural households in a mixed farming system in northern Ethiopia. Dynamic behavior of choice is analyzed for a principal animal, an animal that constitutes the largest value of livestock assets a household possesses, using a multinomial logit model. A household that keeps oxen as a principal animal is considered the reference household....

Seasonal concentrations of some heavy metals in muscle tissues of Siganus rivulatus and Sargus sargus fish from El-mex bay and eastern harbour, Alexandria, Egypt OceanDocs
Khaled, A..
The concentration of seven heavy metals (Cd, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn) were detected seasonally in muscle tissues of two fish species (Siganus rivulatus, Sargus sargus) collected from El-Mex Bay and Eastern Harbour. In both species, levels of the seven metals were significantly higher in summer compared with other seasons. The concentrations of such metals decreased in the order Fe > Zn > Cu > Ni ≥ Pb > Mn > Cd. The metal pollution index (MPI) for the two species fluctuated between 0.9 and 1.8 in El-Mex and Eastern Harbour. Provisional Tolerable Weekly Intake (PTWI) demonstrates that the concentration of the metals (Cd, Cu and Pb) in the muscle of Siganus rivulatus and Sargus sargus from El-Mex Bay and Eastern Harbour are much lower than...

Seasonality of nutrients in leaves and fruits of apple trees Scientia Agricola
Nachtigall,Gilmar Ribeiro; Dechen,Antonio Roque.
The nutrient accumulation curves of apple trees are good indicators of plant nutrient demand for each developmental stage. They are also a useful tool to evaluate orchard nutritional status and to estimate the amount of soil nutrient removal. This research aimed at evaluating the seasonality of nutrients in commercial apple orchards during the agricultural years of 1999, 2000, and 2001. Therefore, apple tree leaves and fruits of three cultivars 'Gala', 'Golden Delicious' and 'Fuji' were weekly collected and evaluated for fresh and dry matter, fruit diameter and macronutrient (N, P, K, Ca and Mg) and micronutrient (B, Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn) concentrations. Leaf and fruit sampling started one or two weeks after full bloom, depending on the cultivar, and ended...

Sources of paralytic shellfish toxin accumulation variability in the Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas ArchiMer
Pousse, Emilien; Flye-sainte-marie, Jonathan; Alunno-bruscia, Marianne; Hegaret, Helene; Jean, Fred.
This study was designed to assess the contribution of feeding behavior to inter-individual variability of paralytic shellfish toxin (PST) accumulation in the Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas. For this purpose 42 oysters were exposed for 2 days to non-toxic algae and then for 2 other days to the PST producer Alexandrium minutum. Individual clearance rate (CR) of oysters was continuously monitored over the 4 days using an ecophysiological measurement system. Comparison of CR values when exposed to toxic and non toxic algae allowed to estimate a clearance rate inhibition index (CRII). Toxin concentration of oysters was quantified at the end of the experiment. These data allowed to estimate the toxin accumulation efficiency (TAE) as the ratio of toxin...

Use of fish otoliths as a temporal biomarker of field uranium exposure ArchiMer
Mounicou, S.; Frelon, S.; Le Guernic, A.; Eb-levadoux, Y.; Camilleri, V.; Fevrier, L.; Pierrisnard, S.; Carasco, L.; Gilbin, R.; Mahé, Kelig; Tabouret, Helene; Bareille, G.; Simon, O..
This study aimed to determine uranium (U) pollution over time using otoliths as a marker of fish U contamination. Experiments were performed in field contamination (~20 μg L−1: encaged fish: 15d, 50d and collected wild fish) and in laboratory exposure conditions (20 and 250 μg L−1, 20d). We reported the U seasonal concentrations in field waterborne exposed roach fish (Rutilus rutilus), in organs and otoliths. Otoliths were analyzed by ICPMS and LA-ICP SF MS of the entire growth zone. Concentrations were measured on transects from nucleus to the edge of otoliths to characterize environmental variations of metal accumulation. Results showed a spatial and temporal variation of U contamination in water (from 51 to 9.4 μg L−1 at the surface of the water...

Исследование накопления и выведения нефтяных углеводородов моллюсками Abra segmentum в экспериментальных условиях IBSS Repository
Тихонова, Е. А..
Experimental studies on the effect of oil hydrocarbons on molluscs A. segmentum showed that the investigated species is quite resistant to oil pollution. It was determined their concentration in bottom sediments, causing 50% loss of abra for 5 days, which amounts to 1522 mg/100 g dry–air b. s.
